In this DIY project, Cheryl shows how she made doors for an existing open bookcase in her son's bedroom. She used MDF with a black melamine top layer, which was cut to size by us. Read the article below to discover her approach to this project.
Description by Cheryl
We had wall-to-wall bookcases in my son's new bedroom, collecting dust and diverting attention. Moreover, there was no place to hang a poster of a Delorean! With a dust allergy, I knew I had to do something quickly. I found a great wood product on this website with a black melamine top coat. Measuring was the hardest part. We have an old house and the doors on the right side were 1 cm higher than those on the left because of sloping ceilings. The doors arrived beautifully labelled with the measurements so I could easily compare them to my plan and the customer service was great. I could even choose my delivery day.
How I created this project
This project involved 30 custom-made doors, over 1,000 screws, 74 piano hinges, 30 magnets, 30 door handles, 20 metres of iron-on melamine lace tape, countless washers... it was priceless to be able to amaze my husband and father-in-law that everything fitted perfectly. (I knew it would work). I never thought DIY would include ironing.... but adding edging to the raw edges was extremely satisfying. My son is immensely happy to be able to close his books and hang his Delorean posters. Great job by TOSIZE.pt! And a high five to mum!
