In this DIY project, Liane shows how she made skirting boards and shelves using sawn sheet material ordered online. Read more about the approach and experience below.

Description by Liane

When the kitchen was delivered, it turned out that the high upper cabinets each only had 1 shelf. Because we didn't really need the space, it stayed that way. But because we were going to order MDF strips to make skirting boards for our renovated first floor, we immediately had the extra planks made.

How I made this project

Because each kitchen cabinet has a slightly different width and depth, it was still a bit of a puzzle. Fortunately, specifying sizes is very easy on the website. After delivery I fitted the front with edging and then it was a matter of sliding it in. We cut the MDF strips to size and provided them with a rounded edge. They were then primed twice and varnished once. After installation, sealing and filling, they were varnished again. It looks really sleek!
