It is often a shame to get rid of an old but still good piece of furniture. Partial reuse is a good and sustainable idea. By ordering the sheet material and sawing work online, such a project can also be carried out easily. Ben shows how he made a beautiful new and more modern custom piece of furniture using parts from his old TV cabinet.

We were done with our clumsy, heavy teak wooden TV cabinet and ready for something slim with all cables and appliances out of sight. For this we ordered wood online and used wood from our old furniture for the top and flaps. Now we are very happy with this sleek piece of furniture. The sheet material ordered was perfectly cut to size and immediately ready for processing; ordinary people would never be able to achieve such clean cuts. Delivered earlier than expected, so absolutely great!

How I made this project

The new furniture has dimensions of approximately 180.0 x 20.0 x 30.0 cm) and contains space for all our devices. I started with the sheet material ordered online: top and bottom connected via sides. I reinforced that square with various 30x30 mm beams. I made the flaps from the top of the old piece of furniture, provided hinge holes myself, sawed them out, and then covered them with insect screen and black speaker cloth, using a tacker. Now all remote controls work without having to open the covers. The top is also from the top of the old piece of furniture and extends 22 mm to the front, so that the flaps underneath close. We have provided the furniture with a wood paint that matches our wall well.
