Description
A new table was designed for the canteen. A beautiful, thick 40mm birch plywood top was used for this.
Making a table top yourself
When my client asked me to design a new table for his canteen, I quickly turned to TOSIZE.pt. To find a suitable table top and have it custom-cut! We were looking for a beautiful, sturdy, and thick wood for the table. I explored the different options at TOSIZE.pt and ended up choosing plywood.
I chose plywood because I find the visible veneer layers very attractive, and I know that plywood is both very strong and more stable than solid wood.
To add some more detail to the top, the corners were rounded with a 5.0 cm radius, and the edges underneath were given a 10mm rounding. To give the top a darker color, I rubbed dark walnut varnish into it with a sponge. Then, I sprayed a logo on it and finished it with a glossy clear lacquer. A base was designed to match the color and thickness of the top.
