Product properties
What is a Plexiglass insulation window?
A front window is a plastic window that you can place in front of or behind an existing window. The product is easy to install and equally easy to remove again. Plexiglas front windows are the option to easily make your home more durable. The material keeps the heat in during the winter, where in summer it mainly keeps the heat out. In addition, the front windows have soundproofing properties. The material Plexiglas is the strength alternative to normal glass. The product is up to 30 times stronger, making it a safer alternative than its widely used counterpart.
The construction of a Plexiglass insulation window
The front window is made of plexiglass. There are two types plexiglas: plexiglas GS & plexiglas XT. The difference between the two products is in the production process. Plexiglass GS is cast in a glass mould and pressed into a solid sheet. Plexiglass XT, on the other hand, is extruded, in other words, stretched into the finished product.
Less product is needed with Plexiglas XT, which means that Plexiglas XT can be offered more cheaply. The latter production method also means that there is a lot of stress on the product. This makes Plexiglas XT less easy to process than its cast counterpart.
Plexiglass insulation window types
We offer both the cast (GS) and extruded (XT) plexiglass front window. You can read about the difference between these two panels in the previous section.
Available thicknesses
We have different thicknesses available in our range, ranging from 3 to 10 millimetres thick. All plexiglass front windows can be custom ordered in your desired dimensions.
Maintenance of a Plexiglass insulation window
It is essential to know what you should and should not do in terms of maintenance. Plexiglass is a very thick or bonding material so the product does not naturally pick up much dirt. If dirt does accumulate, it is best to use average household products. Think of a microfibre cloth, a normal window rag and detergent such as Dreft or green soap. Absolutely do not use abrasive cleaners like a scouring pad or detergents like Cif. This will cause small scratches on the surface, giving the plexiglass a very dull appearance. Plexiglas is extremely scratch-sensitive.
If you are too late to read the above and scratches have already appeared, there is no need to panic. There is a special product called Xerapol which fills in the scratches. By rubbing this product in carefully and eventually wiping it off with a microfibre cloth, the scratches will be much less visible. If you don't have Xerapol at your disposal and still want to remove the scratches, copper polish is a nice alternative.
Editing a Plexiglass insulation window
Plexiglass front windows are easy to edit depending on the material. Plexiglas XT front windows, the pulled out product, are not easy to machine due to the tension of the material. The moulded GS Plexiglas is easy to machine.
The frames can be cut to size using, for instance, a jigsaw or circular saw. Preferably, use a fine saw blade. The easiest way, of course, is to order the products from us. We will cut it to size for you in all rectangular shapes free of charge!
Specific applications of a Plexiglass insulation window
Plexiglass front windows are mainly used to install in front of or behind a window. The Plexiglas front window has an insulating effect. In this way, the window is used for preservation. In addition, the front window can be used in houses where renovations or adjustments are not desired, for example monumental buildings.
Mounting of a Plexiglass insulation window
There are several mounting options for the front window. You can fix the product using a transparent sealant such as BLS Alcoxy siliconenkit. It is also possible to drill into the front windows, but keep in mind that the product may expand with temperature changes. However, we recommend using mounting clips with an optional addition of glass tape. When using these clips, the plastic has room to expand and contract. This minimizes the risk of cracks. In addition, you don't have to bother with drill holes, which will eventually become weaker spots in the board anyway. Finally, there is the advantage that the Plexiglas front window is easy to dismantle, making the front window easy to clean. The mounting clips are easy to attach with a drill. Keep in mind where exactly you attach the mounting clips. Place the mounting clips 10 centimetres from the corners and keep a maximum distance of 30 centimetres between the clips.
