Plywood birch CP/CP: what is it?
Birch plywood is the most popular type of plywood board for indoor use because it is the best quality choice. It is waterproof glued as standard and has a clearer wood grain compared to poplar plywood. Moreover, birch is a hardwood species. This plywood panel is much harder than poplar, a softwood. It can therefore take a beating! This also makes the material more durable. Plywood birch has a natural, light-brown colour and the edges are clean and decorative. With birch plywood, the wood grain is clearly visible, which gives the wood its coarse flames. The drawing of the wood grain runs standard along the length of the plywood. Our plywood panels are suitable for horizontal applications, such as floorboards and window sills. For vertical applications, take into account the risk of warping.
Birch plywood is made up of different layers of birch veneer. These layers are glued crosswise to each other. This results in a stable board. Nevertheless, the glued wood remains, during the sawing and processing of plywood birch tension can be released which can cause longer sheets to bend.
Visibility grade plywood birch CP/CP
The quality of plywood is indicated by letter combinations. There is a letter indication for the visible side (top side) and one for the reverse side (bottom side). This refers to the quality of the veneer, the quality of the gluing for example is indicated differently. B/BB is an example of a common quality, which can be used for decorative applications. Here, the first letter (in this case CP) indicates the quality of the visible side and the second letter (in this case CP) indicates the quality of the reverse side. Read here more about all visible qualities.
This board material has the visible side CP/CP. Both the upper and lower sides have the CP visual quality. In CP-grade veneers, defects have been filled and knots have fallen out. Also, (large) discolourations are present, technical defects and cracks in the veneer are allowed. CP/CP is a low quality plywood and should only be used for constructive purposes.
Available thicknesses of plywood birch
You can order plywood in different thicknesses. You can easily specify your desired thickness during the ordering process. In this way, you can be sure that the sheet material meets your requirements: both the format and the thickness of the material. The following thicknesses are available: 6.5 mm, 9 mm, 12 mm, 15 mm, 16.5 mm, 18 mm, 21 mm, 24 mm, 27 mm, 30 mm and 40 mm.
Machining plywood birch boards
Plywood is an easy board material to work with, if you have sharp tools. For drilling holes, we recommend a wood drill with a centre point. Pre-drilling is also recommended for this panel material. This board material can discolour over time, so finish it with a (clear) varnish, stain or paint. Use an edge sealer to finish the edges of plywood, this prevents the varnish or stain from penetrating the board material, which may lead to the veneer layers coming loose.
Specific applications Multiplex Birch CP/CP
